EFMC News

EFMC’s main event in 2014 will be the XXIII International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ISMC), organised in collaboration with the Group of Medicinal Chemistry of the Portuguese Chemical Society and scheduled for September 7-11, 2014 in Lisbon. The 2014 edition will continue the tradition established by these biennial symposia and will cover drug discovery advances in the major therapeutic areas, including neglected diseases, CNS disorders, inflammation, metabolic disorders, and oncology. EFMC-ISMC 2014 will present the most recent advances in lead identification and optimisation strategies, drug design and profiling technologies, and illustrate the impact of biomarkers and imaging at the interfaces between chemistry, biology and experimental medicine. Particular emphasis will be put on first time disclosures, recent highlights in medicinal chemistry, and organic synthesis which had a strong impact on medicinal chemistry.

Abstract submission for poster presentation can be done until June 16 (with a handling fee of €50), and the standard registration fee applies until July 1. All info is available on the website www.efmc-ismc.org

To create a network of young European investigators in Medicinal Chemistry, to stimulate young European investigators in Medicinal Chemistry to share their scientific work with peers and inspiring leaders in the field, and to create competition and excellence in Medicinal Chemistry within Europe, the EFMC decided to organise a Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium on the Friday following the EFMC-ISMC Symposium.

The Programme of the 1st EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium will include:

  • 2 keynote lectures
  • 8 oral communications by invited prize winners from national young medicinal chemist meetings in Europe
  • 4 oral communications selected from submitted abstracts
  • 20 flash poster presentations selected from submitted abstracts
  • A poster session open to any young researcher submitting an abstract

The EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium is open to any scientist interested by the topics related to Medicinal Chemistry.

On October 26-29, 2014, EFMC will be organising the Short Course on "Principles of Molecular Recognition" in The Netherlands. Organisers are George Keseru (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) and Andrew Leach (John Moores University). This intensive course is intended for scientists working in the field, and the number of participants will be limited to 35 to favour in dept discussion. The various presentations and tutorials will be taken by experts in the field who will present a broad historical perspective as well as cutting edge research from both academia and industrial settings. The course will take an informal approach and ought to prompt plenty of discussion among participants.

More information will soon be available on the website www.efmcshortcourses.org
