To acknowledge and recognize an outstanding young medicinal chemist (≤ 10 years after PhD) working in industry or in academia within Europe, EFMC established the EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Industry and the EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Academia. Both prizes consist of a diploma, € 1.000 and an invitation for a short presentation at the upcoming 6th EFMC International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC’15), scheduled to take place on May 15-18, 2015 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Deadline for nominations/applications is January 31, 2015. More information is available on www.efmc.info

With the aim to support training and networking within the medicinal chemistry community, EFMC is organising twice a year an EFMC Short Course on Medicinal Chemistry. In April 2015, Christian Ottmann and Luc Brunsveld (TU Eindhoven, The Netherlands) will organise a Course on “Small-Molecule Modulation of Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs)”. The Fall Course on “Engineering of Biopharmaceuticals” will be organised by Jesper Lau (Novo Nordisk, Denmark). Both Short Courses will take place in Oegstgeest (near Leiden), The Netherlands. For more information and registration, we refer to the website www.efmcshortcourses.org

In the upcoming year, EFMC will co-organise three international meetings to encourage contacts and exchanges between medicinal chemists in Europe and around the world. The 6th EFMC International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC ’15), which will be held in combination with the 13th Annual meeting of the Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Israel Chemical Society, is scheduled to be held on November 15-18, 2015 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The programme will be put together by Ilan Marek (Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Israel) and Uli Stilz (Novo Nordisk & EFMC, Denmark). More information will soon be available on the website

In 2015 EFMC and the ACS MediDivision will also be jointly organising the fifth edition of the Frontiers in Medicinal Chemistry Meeting, to be held in Antwerp, Belgium on September 14-16, 2015. This symposium is the fifth in the series initiated in Siena in 2007 and continued in Barcelona in 2009, Stockholm in 2011 and San Francisco in 2013. For this year’s edition, the local organisers will be the Medicinal and Bioorganic Chemistry Division of the Royal Flemish Chemical Society (KVCV), the Division of Medicinal Chemistry of the Société Royale de Chimie (SRC) and the Section Medicinal Chemistry of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV).

Following the spirit of this series, the meeting will bring together top quality speakers from the US and Europe, especially from Belgium and the Netherlands. To find out more on the selected sessions, please visit the website www.frontiers2015.org

In connection with the Frontiers Meeting, EFMC will be organising on September 17, 2015 the 2nd EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium (EFMC-YMCS). The aim of the symposium is to create a network of young European investigators in Medicinal Chemistry, to stimulate them to share their scientific work with peers and inspiring leaders in the field, and to create competition and excellence in Medicinal Chemistry within Europe by selecting the European Champion in Medicinal Chemistry. More details can be found on the website www.efmc-ymcs.org
