European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry

The objective of the EFMC is to advance the science of medicinal chemistry by promoting cooperation between the adhering organisations.

EFMC persues this objective in the following manner:

By holding (or assisting in the holding of) the biennial International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ISMC) and other scientific meetings or schools, exchanging ideas and informations, by offering opportunities and by encouraging discussion related to medicinal chemistry.

By editing "Medicinal Chemistry in Europe" the EFMC Yearbook which is aiming to become a reference handbook dedicated to medicinal chemistry, giving not only national societies but also corporate companies involved in medicinal chemistry the opportunity to dispatch their dynamic profile and image amongst medicinal scientists.

By establishing working-groups for studying subjects related to medicinal chemistry.

By cooperating with other international scientific organisations (e.g. ACS, AFMC, EuChemS, Eufeps, IUPAC etc.) and by collaborating with other societies in joint meetings.

By conferring awards including the Nauta Pharmacochemistry Award for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology, established by the Dutch Foundation "Stichting Prof. Dr.W.Th. Nauta Fonds", the UCB-Ehrlich Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry, established by the Belgian UCB S.A., Pharma Sector, and the Prous Institute-Overton and Meyer Award for New Technologies in Drug Discovery, established by the Prous Science S.A.

By conferring the EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Industry and the EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Academia. The Prizes are given annually and consist of a diploma, €1000 and an invitation for a short presentation at an EFMC organised symposium.

By publishing the Proceedings of the EFMC-ISMC.
