The 10th edition of the EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists' Symposium will be held in Zagreb, Croatia on September 7-8, 2023 and will be organised by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (EFMC) and the EFMC Young Scientists Network (YSN). The event will be organised in connection with the IX EFMC International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC’23).

Participants will be requested to comply to the COVID-19 safety & health guidelines which will be applicable at the time of the event.

This short symposium has the aim of:

  • creating a network of young European investigators
  • stimulating young European investigators to share their scientific work with peers and inspiring leaders in the field
  • creating competition and excellence within Europe by selecting the European Champion in Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology

The Programme of the 10th EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists’ Symposium will include:

  • keynote lectures given by inspiring leaders in the field, with ample time for interaction with the speakers.
  • oral communications by invited prize winners from national young medicinal chemist meetings in Europe
  • flash poster presentations selected from submitted abstracts
  • a poster session open to any young researcher submitting an abstract
  • an exhibition
  • prizes

The scientific programme will also be completed by a series of soft-skill training activities provided to you by the EFMC Young Scientists Network.

The 8th edition of the EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists' Symposium will be held virtually on September 9-10, 2021 and will be organised by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (EFMC) and the EFMC Young Scientists Network (YSN).

We had big hopes to be able to hold it in Basel, Switzerland at the initial date, but the lasting COVID-19 pandemic will continue to impact our lives and the way we can meet and travel through 2021.

Because we care about your health, the committee took the decision to run a fully virtual event – and prepare it upfront to offer you a digital platform to access the content during and after the symposium. The same reason lays behind our decision to postpone the event by one week and hold it on September 9-10, 2021 – as many of you will surely attend the XXVI EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ISMC 2021) and we want to give your mind and eyes the time to rest.

The Programme of the 8th EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists’ Symposium will include:

  • keynote lectures given by inspiring leaders in the field, with ample time for interaction with the speakers.
  • oral communications by invited prize winners from national young medicinal chemist meetings in Europe

We had originally intended to postpone the 7th meeting by one year and to run it together with the 8th edition at the same location (F. Hoffman-La-Roche site in Basel) on September 2-3, 2021.

However, because we believe this event is important for our community, we have decided to run the 7th EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists' Symposium as a virtual event this year on the original dates of 10th and 11th September 2020

The programme of this virtual event will include:

The EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium is an initiative of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC). After a successful first edition organised in Lisbon in September 2014, four further meetings have been organised in Antwerp (2015), Manchester (2016), Vienna (2017) and Ljubljana (2018). The 6th edition will be organised in connection with the EFMC International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC 2019), and will take place in Athens on September 5-6, 2019.

The Programme of the 6th EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium will include:

  • opening lecture given by Prof. K.C. NICOLAOU (Rice university, United States)
